Form (and Form)
I think of myself as a formalist, making choices based on composition, texture, spatial relationships, etc. As a way of making my style relatable, I use the most traditional of visual themes, the human figure.
20th Century Image-making
I learned my creative practices as a photographer when image-making relied on mechanical and chemical processes. While I was quick to adopt digital technology, I have found my voice is clearest when making art hands-on.
My Background
Photography has been a part of my family's lives since my grandfather built a darkroom in the attic about a century ago. I personally started to seriously work at becoming a photographer as a teenager in the 80's using my father's Nikon F. I researched and learned to use 19th century processes as well as more modern techniques. I even taught high school art and photography for a few years. Since I left teaching, I have spent more time doing my own work, which is what you see here.
